The Rocklite is a new lightweight cragging helmet from Wild Country. Basically a stripped down version of the Alpine Shield, the Rocklite is made from EPS (Expanded PolyStyrene), meaning it works like an impact-absorbing bike helmet, rather than your typical mountaineering-style shell designed for rock and ice fall. However, in a clever twist, Wild Country has built the helmet so that you can attach the polycarbonate Shield (the same one used on the Alpine Shield, which you have to buy extra). The Shield will extend the life of the helmet and provided added protection in alpine environments or areas with loose rock. The Rockline is a clean, nice-looking helmet, featuring ‘Quik-dial’ adjustability and Coolmax/EVA padding, which is apparently very comfortable. It doesn’t sit too high on the head, while four clips make attaching a headtorch easy (the clips are made from acetal, which are not effected by cold temps). The Rocklite weighs 260 grams and retails for $139.95. Contact Expedition Equipment on (02) 9417 5755 to find out more.
